Animal Kingdom Attractions:
The
Tree of Life

The roots of the Tree of Life are planted here on Discovery Island.  It is 14 stories high (manmade, of course) and can be seen throughout the park. That’s why it’s become the symbol of the Animal Kingdom.

Inside the base of the tree, is your chance to become an honorary bug by attending “It’s Tough to be a Bug” in the tree trunk theatre.

You can also stroll down the paths in this area to see all kinds of wildlife and exotic birds in habitats that resemble their natural homes.

The Tree of Life is another incredible example of Disney Engineering! From a distance, this enormous tree looks real. Up close though, you can see the animals that have been lovingly carved into its trunk. Look closely, some are so subtle that it takes a keen eye to recognize them.

There are over 320 animals blended into the 'bark' of this 145-foot tall tree. Artists from around the world were brought together by Disney to carve them.

Imagine the feat it took to create this monument. It had to:

  • be strong enough to withstand Florida’s worst hurricanes
  • look real, yet be made of a carveable surface
  • house a 430-seat theatre, with room for waiting moviegoers!
